The Cinematography Collective is a 10 week introductory course on the Art of Cinematography, taught by the Department of Media Coventry School of Art and Design.

Its aim is to help develop your understanding of some of the fundamentals of filmmaking: drawing on areas such as directing, cinematography, film history and media theory.

Over the 10 week schedule, participants on the course will work on a series of cinematic responses to 8 creative briefs. The aim is to produce a showreel of work that shows your ‘cinematic voice’. Alongside this we also expect you to reflect on and analyse your work in relation to the history and theory of film as well as its wider contexts and meanings.

It is a practice-based class where students will learn by watching, creating, sharing and thinking about their visual and artistic identity.

It is created and run by Steve Dawkins, Matthew Hawkins, Rebecca Pittam, Ross Varney and Pete Woodbridge
